Orange Garlic Festival

With harvest in full swing in many states plans for festivals and launches are in being put in place all over Australia. If you are in Orange, NSW, or in the general environs then a visit to the Orange Garlic Harvest Festival is a must. It is on Saturday 5th of December from 11am at The Lakehouse, Lake Canobolas. AGIA member Bee Smith from The Garlic Smith says there will be garlic and garlic braids for sale, garlic inspired food, Canobolas-Smith wines, music and a garlic growing workshop. It's been a fantastic event for the last two years and likely to be even better this year. The workshops will be run by the very knowledgeable and experienced garlic grower Jocelyn Colleran (another AGIA member). Her first session covers bed preparation, when to plant, selecting and preparing planting stock, planting the cloves, weed control, growing stages and appropriate care. While the second session is about harvesting and beyond with harvest timing, tips and techniques, sizing and sorting, curing and storage, grading and value adding, flavour chemistry and culinary use.
