Over 100 garlic growers and enthusiasts attended the 2015 Garlic Seminar. Comments in feedback forms ranged from 'The conference was well managed, friendly and very well targeted to the audience. The audience came together as a very good “user group” and went away feeling very positive about the future of garlic in Australia and their own future.' to 'it was an terrific weekend, the AGIA has taken incredible steps ..... and we are so pleased we re-joined and attended.'
Topics covered were well-tailored to the needs of growers both big and small and included Making Your business more profitable, predictacle and reliable; Growing Garlic, Scaling up and investment decisions; Garlic groups and cultivars with an emphasis on harvesting, storage and taste; Understanding and preparing garlic for the wholesale market; Cultivating garlic from bulbils; Understanding and soil and plant tissue testing; Garlic pests, diseases and viruses and Curing and storing garlic. Jonathon Hart, from one of our sponsors Erme gave us an international perspective on growing garlic and we also learnt about Weed Gunnel and weed control, Farmtek mulching machinary and Organic Crop Protectants and Feeding your garlic crop from our other sponsors.
Once again the organisers made sure that there was lots of time to catch up with other garlic growers as well as others committed to the future of the garlic industry in Australia.
