Selecting and preparing your garlic for award entry
To make the process as simple as possible the ID numbers are already formatted so that the document can be printed, each ID number cut out and a small hole made to secure to garlic using string (as pictured below).
Storage of garlic prior the competition
- All packaging will be completely removed
- Boxes will be opened, garlic removed and stored on bread trays (or similar)
- Each entry will be stored separate to other entries
- Trays will be stored in optimal ventilation, out of direct sunlight and moisture
Requirements
- The Awards are open to commercial growers
- Entrants must provide 3 bulbs for each entry, each bulb must have the unique identifying number provided with your entry securely attached.
- Bulbs should be large, of a consistent size and shape and fully cured.
- Check also that there is no damage, black mould or other pest or disease.
- Smell the bulbs to check their are no off odours.
- Roots to be clean and trimmed to less than 5mm.
- Skins to be clean with a minimum of three unbroken layers and bulbs firm.
- Stems to be cut to between 20 and 50mm
Your unique ID numbered tags can be found in the welcome email that also contains the postage instructions.
Posting your entry
- Express post
- Package in a cardboard box surrounded by shredded paper or wood wool, to protect from damage and so there is no build up of moisture
- Do not overcrowd
- Small holes in the box may improve air circulation
- If you are wrapping in plastic, we recommend small holes to avoid sweating
